Judge on the Record
Assess a person on what they have actually done, not on a stereotype, a reputation, or what someone else once did to you. Everyone is a separate person.
Kevin's belief is that people deserve to be evaluated on their own actions and track record. He asks to be judged on what he has actually done and how he has shown up, and the same fairness is the standard he tries to apply to others. private page
The trap it guards against
The failure mode is fusing a new person with an old wound, so they get pre-convicted for a crime they did not commit. It feels like protection but it is really punishing the present for the past. The discipline is to separate the person in front of you from your fears, your history, and the categories you might slot them into, and let them earn or lose your trust on their own behavior. private page
It cuts both ways
Judging on the record also means holding yourself to yours, not coasting on reputation or intentions. It applies everywhere: hiring, first impressions, who you write off, who you over-trust. Look at the actual evidence of how someone behaves over time. private page
