Algrow YouTube Search
YouTube search integration for Claude. Plugs real, constantly-updated YouTube data directly into Claude conversations, filling a gap in Claude's research capabilities.
What It Does
Algrow provides Claude with the ability to search YouTube - something the model cannot do natively. The integration surfaces real video metadata, view counts, and content from YouTube's constantly-updated index. This makes Claude useful for tasks that require understanding what's being published and discussed on YouTube: competitor analysis, trend spotting, content research, and audience signal reading. The announcement framed it as "Claude can now search YouTube for you" - positioning Algrow not as a standalone tool but as an extension of Claude's capabilities via direct integration. Source: X/@samgrows, 2026-04-06
MCP Shape
The current implementation is a hosted MCP server, which makes Algrow a concrete MCP as the Integration Standard example rather than only a marketing claim. The docs list configuration paths for Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, and generic MCP clients, with the server URL at https://mcp.algrow.online/mcp and API-key authentication. Do not paste the client secret from the docs into local config; generate Kevin-owned credentials if this becomes active tooling. Source: Algrow MCP docs, 2026-07-01
The tool surface is YouTube-native rather than generic web search. Algrow exposes channel search, short-form and long-form channel discovery, viral video search, YouTube scraping, transcript reading, and related content-research tools. That makes it useful when the research question depends on video/channel structure, not just page text. Source: Algrow MCP docs and blog, 2026-07-01
Visual review: the bookmark video shows Algrow inside Claude-style conversation flows, channel-similarity results, analytics charts, and mobile availability. The thumbnail alone is not meaningful; the sampled video frames confirm this is an interactive research integration rather than a static directory. Source: X/@samgrows visual artifact, 2026-04-06
Research Pipeline Fit
Algrow complements Kevin's existing research stack:
| Tool | Coverage | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| Security and Review Skills | Reddit, X, YouTube, TikTok, HN, Polymarket, GitHub, web | Broad multi-platform sweep with engagement scoring |
| Security and Review Skills | 17 platforms via CLI | Direct access, zero API fees for 8 channels |
| Algrow | YouTube specifically | Deep YouTube search inside Claude conversations |
Where last30days and agent-reach give breadth, Algrow gives depth on YouTube specifically - useful when the research question is "what are people making videos about X" rather than "what are people saying about X across platforms." Source: User, 2026-05-17
Engagement
5,627 likes and 7,549 bookmarks (134% bookmark-to-like ratio), indicating practitioners saved this for integration into their own workflows. Source: X/@samgrows, 2026-04-06
Versioning
Algrow is a hosted service, not a public package. Version authority is its live docs and blog, checked 2026-07-01. Record the MCP server URL, supported clients, and available tool categories instead of inventing semver. If Kevin starts using it repeatedly, route setup through Actionable Tools Index and an MCP config note rather than a new skill. Source: Algrow MCP docs, 2026-07-01
